A SPIDERS WEB.

Conceptual exhibition, 2018

'What is normal for the spider, is chaos for the fly.' - Charles Addams

During this exhibition, Zelleke explores the complexity of chaos and normality, through the metaphor of a spiders web. Spiders have been depicted throughout history and are represented in many different cultures varying from Greek mythology to African folklore and are still used in present day through films such as The Spiderman franchises. The spider, a symbol of malice and mischief due to its toxic venom, is also the master of weaving and a symbol of patience and persistence.

Inspired but Chihary Shiota's "Lost in Lace" exhibit, Zelleke used an unorthodox method of randomly weaving and layering, a simple while string until it became a wall like structure, isolating the chair in the corner of the room. The context of the chair has been changed and is now unfamiliar to the audience. This was done to show that normality is not the same for everyone. much like the spider and fly peoples situations is life though may collide with one another, are different.
