The story that I always remember was the story of the Cheetah and their stained cheeks. There was once a hunter that was too lazy to hunt and wanted someone to do it for him. So, he decided to steal the cheetah’s cubs and train them to hunt for him. However, when the cheetah saw her missing cubs, she cried so hard she stained her cheeks. An elder had her cries and asked her what was wrong, when learnt of what the hunter had done, he forced him to return her cubs and the hunter was exiled. To this day the cheetah continues to wear the stained cheeks as a reminder of the past.

Our stories make us who we are, and our scars remind us of where we have been, and we can heal together and learn from each other.

With this medal I wanted to show my love and appreciation for the continent I grew up in. There are two Africa’s in my opinion, the one that I and a lot of others know, the strong, independent, and beautiful continent and the one that is portrayed negatively in the media, the sick, violent, and poor continent. Africa has been though a lot in the past, but its beauty has always amazed me, from the colours of the cloths and natural environments and various ecosystems to the music and the art of storytelling.
